SENECA DISTRICT KLONDIKE 2020 – ORIENTEERING STATION – January 18, 2020
Recap
Given the success of the orienteering station at the Great Trail Council Seneca District 2019 Klondike, it was no surprise that Klondike coordinator Chad Roberts asked NEOOC to do it again for their 2020 edition. Bob Boltz designed another challenging course with 16 controls allowing for a possible 280 points. He and Sanae Rogers set the course on Friday.
Jack Frost and Mother Nature then conspired to make it even more difficult. The day started with the ground fully snow-covered, but that soft cooperative layer transformed, as it rained throughout the day, turning it all to a wet heavy slushy mess. 14 patrols from 10 different troops ignored those impediments to complete the station with varying results. The Flaming Wolves scored the most points, with the Cavemen coming in second. Third was shared between the Bearded Dragons and Black Hawks. With few exceptions, scouts returned from the course undaunted by the exhausting grind, and capable of thinking of their next formidable opportunity to orienteer.
NEOOC welcomes all of them, and you, to its next event at this same location for the 2020 Snow-O on February 1st.
