Recap

Congratulations to Shelley Tender, Interpretive Services Manager, of the Medina County Parks District.  After several years of work she brought her first orienteering event to Allardale Park.  Congratulations also to Bob Boltz for another fine inaugural map and addition to our club’s collection.

The early September weather was upper sixties with only a hint of possible sprinkles (which never arrived).  Consequently, the track was dry and firm throughout.  So a terrific day and conditions for orienteering.

The new venue is a mixture of farm fields, former farm fields with mowed passages and woods.  The general terrain is rolling with some steeper re-entrant features but they do not predominate nor frequently present as uncrossable.  The woods are mostly open but there are meaningful thicker pockets under the canopy as well.  The size of the venue is smaller, about 350 acres, thus due to its size and topography it is a terrific venue for orienteers of intermediate skill level.  But its rolling character does provide for fitness building.

Attendance exceeded our exceptions.  [The unveiling of new maps have tended to garner smaller participation initially.  We’re still not sure why.  But this event bucked that trend.]  And a significant number of participants took advantage of our early bird membership renewal offer (renew or become a new member now at 2019 prices before our new fee/dues levels kick-in at the end of our season, November 9th).

In short, our inaugural event at Allardale was a terrific success.  We look forward to years of partnership with the Medina County Parks District!
