THANK YOU! TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED!

Summary:

The day started on a frustrating note as, Yours Truly, mistook the start time of the event.  I was targeting a noon start and we’d advertised a start of 11:00am.  My bad!  Thank goodness I got the course out in good order that morning.  But even so, the day started with more chaos than is appropriate.  And as an experienced event director, I should have done better. But with the help of Steve Hendrix, Fred Mailey and the Scouts from Troop 257A  [Brian Feeley’s troop] we were able to keep the ship righted and get people out on the courses in reasonably good order.

Sorry to anyone that I was a little chippy with.

Once on the courses there were no outside mishaps, such as stolen controls or slips and falls or territorial owls (we once had that).  The only dilemma was the  intended one at hand —how to best navigate courses built essentially around a central loop trail.  Thus: should one focus on the trail and duck into the woods at each appropriate point in search of the control or should one try to bisect through the woods and ravines as much as possible to keep to the shortest distance?  Ahhh, the question…!?

As is always the case each person or group decided independently about that and the results ranged widely as a consequence.  The universal good news seemed to be everyone was mostly happy with whatever choice they took, because they learned something either way AND had fun.  In my world, the best possible of outcomes!
Thank you to all who came out and participated.  You overwhelmed me with your kindness and patience.
Special shout out to Trinity Brown, who was simply happening by Kendall for a walk in the park when she decided to check out what the activity was at the shelter.  After asking and being given a summary description, she decided “I’m up for that!”  Thus, after seven entire minutes of instruction, she completed her first White course in excellent fashion.  WAY TO GO TRINITY!  We hope we will see you again!

Special Note: Control 40’s time was slow by about 70 seconds (we are investigating the cause.)  Control 40 was the first control on both White and Long.  All of following split times references have been adjusted accordingly.  Overall course times were NOT impacted.
