Recap
The weather forecast made us worry a little bit, but it turned out to be a pretty nice day for our annual Canoe-O.
This year, we choose to return to the club’s original Canoe-O location, Mogadore Reservoir. We had 54 participants with total of 27 solos/teams. In addition, a large numbers of scouts from Boy Scout Troop 262 launched 8 crafts.
This year’s course was designed by Andreas Johansson. He set 25 controls (he gave up on the 26th control at the last minute, too far away) and he specified a 2 hour time limit. His intention was to make the event more challenging for experts (needing to plan tactics in order to pick up all of the controls within the time limit), but easier for casual participants (less time to paddle). And I think it worked as he planned, as only 2 participants were able to pick all of the controls.
We also decided to add bonus points – giving a point per fishing bobber collected. The paddlers collection of bobbers and trash was a greatly appreciated effort to help protect this wonderful environment.
We faced an unfortunate challenge as we found out that the Mogadore Marina was lacking rental canoes (in repair) and could provide very few kayaks. Howard Montgomery worked very hard to get additional rental kayaks from Burning River Adventures (PaddleTheRiver.com).
The Kayak Solo was most competitive category. Jamey Price took third place with 220 point. Gary Maslanka from Rochester, NY, came in second place with 250 point in 120 minutes. Phillip Wadsworth took first place by only 2 minutes over second place. He also managed to collect 3 bobbers.
For Kayak Team, Third place went to Team Brian and Amanda with 152 points (15 controls and 2 bobbers), and Team Bob and Tena took second place with 177 points (collected 17 bobbers!). First place was taken by Team “Boy, are my arms tired” with 180 points.
First place of the Canoe Solo category went to Jay Williams with 20 points (He went overtime a little bit). Third place for the Canoe Team was taken by Green Reaper with 181 points, and Team Patterson took second place with 201 points. Team Shark Bait took first place with 240 points, winning two years in a row.
We hope you all enjoyed it and we will see you next year!

Paul Mutchler and his buddy Charlie also helped by picking up the two pesky flags east of the Start/Finish. Thanks! That made up for the slippery plastic saw horse vs. a slippery plastic kayak that was a struggle to retrieve.
