Recap
What An Adventure!
My day started with the short walk through the deep and crusty snow to the start location. The amount of effort to go that 100 or so yards was kind of alarming. I thought to myself, “this could be a long day.” Then I thought, “I’m glad I’m only volunteering and not participating in this one!”
Andreas Johansson came up with a new type of event for us that involved four short courses, all of which overlapped one another and all of which were around 2 km in length. The initial thought was that it should not take much more than an hour for an experienced orienteer to complete all the courses, given their length and relative ease of navigation. We did not take into account the snow.
When the first full course competitor came back from the first of his four loops after about 40 minutes, we realized it could very well be a long day. However, as the day went on and paths to the controls began to get tracked down, the course did seem to get faster. Those who had later starts in the day definitely had an advantage.
It was fun to see participants’ reactions at the end of each course. Weary looks and smiles were equally common. I honestly thought there would be a good number of DNFs, but there were NONE. Instead, I saw satisfaction from everyone when they completed their courses; satisfaction that only comes from finishing something that does not come easy.
Well done, everyone!!!

Results Notes:
Overall times have been decreased primarily by subtracting out the Map exchange time: The time spent between MAP FINISH (actually Control 60) and MAP START (Actually Control 57).
A few teams/individuals on Sprint D used the MAP FINISH instead
of the correct “final” FINISH in the middle of the field. The MAP FINISH was at the flag pole and NOT used on Sprint D. Check Sprint D map for details. I “adjusted” the these finishes to allow the MAP FINISH to count for the official FINISH.
A few teams/individuals forgot to punch the MAP START after their
Map Exchange or Pickup. I “adjusted” their time for an average map exchange time.
A few teams/individuals confused and then mispunched controls on opposite sides of a building, bridge, or field area. Check the Clue sheets on your maps.
