1)   NEOOC will recognize 2020 NEOOC Orienteering Season Champions in the following classifications:

  • Advanced Female
  • Advanced Male
  • Intermediate Female
  • Intermediate Male
  • Beginner Female
  • Beginner Male

This will be for individual competitors only, no teams.

2)   Eligibility to compete in the NEOOC Season Championship for 2020 is open to any Individual or Family member of NEOOC who have paid their 2020 dues in full.  Eligibility under Family membership includes all immediate family members who reside in the same household.

3)   In the event that a new or existing member pays their 2020 dues midway through the 2020 season, points earned only on or after the fully-paid date will count towards the 2020 season championship.

4)   Points towards the 2020 NEOOC Orienteering Season Championship will be awarded in all competitive events listed in the official 2020 Schedule for NEOOC events, except for the Python Adventure Race.  Currently the following events are included:

  • Snow-O Camp Butler
  • Classic-O Oak Hill
  • Classic-O Kendall Lake
  • Score-O Richfield Heritage Preserve
  • Camp-O Camp Tuscazoar
  • Classic-O Allardale Park
  • Canoe-O Walborn Reservoir
  • Street & Park-O Sippo Lake
  • Campus-O Kent State
  • Halloween Night-O Allardale Park
  • Night-O Camp Butler

It is possible that events may be added, deleted or changed throughout the year.  The listing of events that will be scored for the 2020 season championship will be updated to maintain alignment with the official club schedule, as published on the NEOOC website.

5)   The classification of courses for purposes of determining NEOOC season champions – Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced – must be clear to competitors at the time they are making the decision as to which course they want to run in an event.

a)   For classic/cross country events, results earned on

i)   White/Yellow courses will be logged under Beginner classification,

ii)   Orange courses will be logged under Intermediate classification, and

iii)   Brown/Green/Red/Blue courses will be logged under Advanced classification

b)   For courses named differently than the normal “White/Yellow/etc.” designations, it will be the responsibility of the Course Designer or Event Director to rate the course prior to the event for the specific Advanced/Beginner/Intermediate classification that points earned will be logged under for season championship purposes.

6)   Competitors may compete on more than one course at an event, as they desire, however season championship points will only be awarded for results achieved on the first course that they run in an event.

7)   Competitors are free to select courses of any skill classification at each event, however points earned in a given skill classification level will stay in that classification level.  E.g., a competitor may start the year running Beginner-level courses, and may improve and move to Intermediate- or Advanced-level courses later in the season.  In that case, any points earned by that competitor on Beginner courses will not “follow” the competitor to Intermediate or Advanced level.

8)   Points will be awarded on each official course that is offered at an event, as follows

a)   Classic/cross-country events

i)   Course winner, provided all controls are completed correctly, receives 1,000 points.

ii)  Competitors behind the course winner, and completing all controls correctly, will receive points reduced from 1,000 by the ratio of the course winner’s time to their own time.

iii)  Competitors who do not complete all controls on a course in the correct order will receive points reduced from the score of the slowest competitor who completed all controls in the correct order by the ratio of the number of completed controls to the total number of controls on the course.

iv)  See Scoring Example for Classic/Cross-country Events.

b) Score/Rogaine events

i)  Course winner (highest score, or fastest time if there are ties) receives 1,000 points.

ii)  Competitors behind the course winner will receive points reduced from 1,000 by the ratio of their net score to the net score of the course winner.

iii)  In the event of competitors with the same net score, the slowest competitor in the tied group will receive 10 points higher than the competitor immediately following the tied group.

iv)  Points for competitors with times between the fastest and slowest competitors in the tied group will be proportional to their times behind the fastest competitor in the tied group.

v)  See Scoring Example for Score/Rogaine Events.

9)   Calculation of Season Championship points will be rounded off to two decimal places.  End-of-season ties will be broken with the higher ranking being awarded to the elder competitor.

10)   2020 NEOOC Season Champions will be determined based on ranking of competitors’ best 6 finishes in the events on NEOOC’s 2020 season calendar.

11)   Tracking of the Season Championship will be updated as soon as possible after the completion and official reporting of each event’s results.  Intentions are to post current standings at each of the events during the season, and to create a page on the NEOOC website to where current standings can be viewed at any time.

Footnotes

  1.  Fastest competitors on their respective courses get 1,000 points.
  2.  Slower competitors who complete all controls on their respective courses in the correct order get points proportionally reduced from 1,000 by the ratio of the course winner’s time to their own time.  E.g., calculation for Emily Kulman’s Yellow course points is: 925 = 1000 * (32:46 / 35:26).
  3.  Points received by competitors who fail to complete all of the controls on their course in the correct order are proportionally reduced from the score of the slowest competitor who completed all controls correctly based on the ratio of controls that they punched correctly to the total number of controls for the course.  E.g., calculation for Troop 575(1) and St.John-Kern Team is: 249 = 285 * (7/8).
  4.  Teams are not being tracked this year for season championship points.
  5.  Only first course run in an event will count for season championship points.
  6.  2020 membership dues are currently unpaid; only paid members of NEOOC are eligible for season championship points.
