Recap

This was our second event at Allardale Park in Medina County and it was another smash hit.  With temperature dropped to mid-forties from previous day of seventies, yes, it was cold for the event volunteers, but still almost-perfect weather for the orienteers.  After all, we didn’t get snow or rain!

We had 30 spots open for pre-registration, and 29 spots were filled. The most competitive course was Green Xtra, with 10 individuals/teams signed up, followed by Orange course with 8 competitors.

The check-in went very smoothly. Justine Avery organized check-in station and handed out e-punches with very accurate manner. Thank you for everybody sticking with your own time assignment. The maps were handed out by Mike Avery at start line after competitors started the timer.  This follows the same rules as national A meet. To keep social distance protocol, finish line was set up away from Check-in/ start point again.  Jay Smink stayed at finish line for 4 hours and made sure everybody came back safely.  He even took everyone’s picture!

Fred Mailey was multi-player of the event. Not only working on pre-registration and e-punches, but also he coached a beginner how to use a map and compass and even went to pick up a control.

4 courses were designed by Howard Montgomery. It seems Green Xtra course has unique challenge to some competitors because a couple controls were used twice (33 and 36) in the course.

Since this is my first event to attend since February, it was really nice to see everybody even if I couldn’t have too much time to chat with everybody because not many people came back to check-in station after the finish.

At last, I’d like to thank everybody who offered me to pick up the controls. It was nice of you and hope we can use your help at next event!
