Recap and Results
NEOOC continued to celebrate our 50th anniversary year with a classic event held at our newest venue – Girdled Road Reservation (mapped 2024/5). This is the first time we’ve held a classic competition at Girdled Road and the streams were flowing, wild turkeys were out, and spring was in the air. New course setters Michael Semick and Christa Petryszyn did a fantastic job designing and setting courses for all skill levels. White and Yellow course participants were treated to a nice trail hike around Girdled Roads lower loop. Intermediate and advanced courses ventured off trail through wet and challenging terrain to find controls hidden in reentrants, behind glacial boulders, and near other features.
The red course was particularly challenging – hats off to all those that made it around! Special congrats to Brandon Hopkins, John Pane, and Todd Pownell for the faster 3 times on red. Josh Loveland had the fastest time on Green, Vicky Vargo on Brown, and Grace Loveland was fastest on Orange.
Results are posted below and Livelox replays are also available. Use Livelox as a learning tool to see how other participants navigated the courses.
Our next two events are both at Stark Parks: Orienteering 101 at Sippo Lake (April 18) followed by another classic event at Quail Hollow (May 9).
Also make sure to hold a spot for our annual Cuyahoga Falls Adventure Quest on May 24 – an urban event that you can on foot or on bike. Great for family fun, training, or introducing new people to orienteering!
