Orienteering Rocks! at Richfield Heritage Preserve

Make plans to join your fellow orienteers for a fun and challenging classic, cross country event at Richfield Heritage Preserve.  We’ll also be united with thousands of orienteers world wide in celebration of World Orienteering Day 2022.
Advanced-level orienteers won’t want to miss out on this one, as our own Todd Pownell has put together a very challenging course featuring control points at many of RHP’s rock formations and providing opportunities to make quick route choices throughout.  Todd has dubbed his creation “Orienteering Rocks!”.  Additional courses will be available, covering all skill levels from novice/beginner through advanced.
Also, right before the first start at this event we will present a modest award to the class winners of NEOOC’s 2020-21 Season Championship:

Details

  • Event format will be classic, cross country – controls must be visited in sequential order as specified on the map for the course that you have chosen to run.
  • Place:  Richfield Heritage Preserve, Richfield, OH
  • Dates and Times:  Sunday, May 15, 2022 – Check-in will be at the Wayside Pavilion (follow signs from main parking lot) starting at 12:00 Noon, with staggered starts beginning at 12:30 PM.
    • No starts after 1:30 PM
    • Courses close at 3:30 PM
  • Five courses:
    • White – 1.8 km, 8 controls
    • Yellow – 2.5 km, 11 controls
    • Orange – 3.4 km, 13 controls
    • Green – 5.3 km, 10 controls
    • Orienteering Rocks! – 7.1 km, 30 (!) controls
    • For the Season Championship, points will map as follows:
      • White & Yellow courses will go to Beginner
      • Orange course will go to Intermediate
      • Green & “Orienteering Rocks!” courses will go to Advanced
  • SportIdent ePunch equipment and FULL SIZE control flags will be in use
  • Livelox will be active for this event.  Sign in to the Livelox app on your smartphone to record your route directly to Livelox, or record it on your Garmin or other GPS tracker, and upload it to Livelox later.

Preregistration and Cost

  • Preregistrations, closing 12 Noon, Saturday, May 14, 2022
    • $10 per Start* for Members of NEOOC or O-USA affiliated clubs
    • $15 per Start* for non-Members
  • Walk-up Starts on Sunday, May 15th 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM.
    • $20 per Start* (Member or non-Member)

* A Start is an individual or group navigating the course together.  One map is included per paid start.  Additional maps, up to two, are $3 each.

You can also renew your NEOOC membership (or join) on the preregistration form.  After submitting your information on the registration form, you will be directed to the PayPal website.  A small offset is added to compensate for PayPal fees.
