  • Event: Black Squirrel Classic-O Spring Orienteering Event
  • Date & Time: Sunday, April 10th. Check-in beginning at 11:30 with staggered starts
  • Location: Kent State University
  • Cost: $10 with preregistration for NEOOC members, $15 for non-members.  Walk-up cost is $20 for anyone
  • Parking is free and is available on-street or paid in the parking deck located at 201 E Erie St, Kent, OH  44240

Calling all runners, hikers, Geo-cachers, and those who just like to explore the outdoors!

In conjunction with the Kent State Adventure Center, we are pleased to bring you the Black Squirrel Classic-O Spring Orienteering Event!  This event will challenge participants on one of five different courses, each varying in difficulty and distance.  Control locations can be found using a map that will be provided. A Classic Orienteering course will challenge you to find all of the controls on the chosen course in the order shown on the map!

Check in will be in the Downtown Kent DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area), just south of the Gazebo at 100 Franklin Ave, Kent, Ohio. Check in will begin at 11:30 AM.  The course will close at 2:30 PM.  The course is entirely on the Kent State campus, with the start and finish located in the Gateway arch area. Post event refreshments will be provided back at the DORA registration area!

PLEASE REVIEW THE  WAIVER OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK BEFORE PREREGISTERING.  BY PREREGISTERING, YOU ARE AGREEING TO THE TERMS OF THIS WAIVER AND ARE ABSOLVING NEOOC AND ORIENTEERING USA , ET AL OF LIABILITY RESULTING FROM YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE ASSOCIATED ORIENTEERING ACTIVITY.

Courses

Five courses will be available:

  • White – 12 controls – 1.9 km
  • Yellow – 13 controls – 2.6 km
  • Orange – 16 controls – 4.2 km
  • Green – 18 controls – 5.4 km
  • Red – 24 controls – 7.6 km

For the Season Championship, results achieved in this event will be mapped into the Season Championship skill categories (Male and Female) as follows:

  • White and Yellow results will go to the Beginner skill categories
  • Orange results will go to the Intermediate skill categories
  • Green and Red results will go to the Advanced skill categories

Preregistration and Cost

  • Preregistrations, closing 12 noon, April 9, 2022
    • $10 per Start* for Members of NEOOC or O-USA affiliated clubs
    • $15 per Start* for non-Members
  • Walk-up Starts on Sunday, April 10th 11:30am to 1pm
    • $20 per Start* (Member or non-Member)

* A Start is an individual or group navigating the course together.  One map is included per paid start.  Additional maps, up to two, are $3 each.

After submitting your information on the registration form, you will be directed to the PayPal website.  Use the PayPal pull down to select the
number of maps.
