The Orienteering map for Richfield Heritage Preserve (RHP) has had many updates over the past few year: new trails installed, changes in vegetation, etc. So we are providing the following updated maps with the same original courses as designed by the Scouts. See the Resources section below for more information.
Updated Course Maps
- Short Course (about a 1 mile trek – 9 controls)
- Start and Finish at Control F – marked 1/9 on the map)
- Long Course (about a 2.75 mile trek – 16 controls)
- Start and Finish at Control K – marked 1/16 on the map)
UsynligO Phone App
- Both of these courses can be run with the UsynligO Phone App that can assist you with finding the controls, if need be. Or this App allows you to run the courses in Score style (visit the controls in any order).
- This App requires the traditional Start and Finish which is located at Kiosk by Parking lot and Gund Hall
- Here is some help with the UsynligO phone app
- Here is the list of all of the courses in NE Ohio that are included in the App.

Resources
- Richfield Heritage Preserve’s Orienteering Webpage – This webpage contains the courses on an older map and the instructions with GPS coordinates for all of the controls. The GPS coordinates can be used for GPS navigation practice and Geocaching practice (aka Caching, Treasure Hunting, Geocache, benchmarking, trigpointing, letterboxing, trail blazing, Munzee). (Archived here also: Instructions/GPS, example picture of a control post)
- Tuscazoar Challenge – This 100 control permanent Score/Rogaine course is available year round. Now with updated permanent metal markers!
Thank You and Acknowledgements!
- The short course (one mile) and the long course (2.75 miles) were installed in 2020 by Eagle Scout Alex Klaben and his Troop 701. Park guests can participate in this self guided course year round at their convenience. NEOOC assisted by providing the map and giving course design advice. Great job Alex and Troop 701!
- RHP was once the home to a Girl Scout Camp, Crowell Hilaka. The campers with some help from their leaders installed several permanent Orienteering courses in the 1990’s. Here are some of the old maps of RHP including a few of the Orienteering Maps prepared by Corey Ringle for her Silver Award. Many of the old Control posts are still there! Can you find them?
