Recap

As a misty cool early Spring day slowly turned sunny, 43 participants challenged the unique Sippo Lake Park.  The park surrounds the lake on three sides and the 5km Green covered all three.  Jonathan Boyer, who was the fastest green runner out of 14 teams, had measured his actual route at just a little over 4 miles.  Check his route and others on LiveloxHoward Montgomery’s green course had a feature not normally seen in our events, revisiting a control point.  Green runners punched control 39 twice on their route.  Viewing the results, it did not seem to be a problem.  Good to see Sandra A (without her snowshoes) and KJ (trail name Average Jo) out, both survived Snow O.  I guess they didn’t hold the weather against us.

The 3.2 Km Orange course held challenges of its own.  Sophomore runner Daniel V (its his second year  running with us) had the fastest orange time, soon he’ll be moving up to green courses. Watch out green runners, Dan is a physics instructor so I’m sure he can do the math to cut course corners and post good times.  Abbie M ran a good orange time but was challenged by control 36.  She wasn’t the only one who spent time looking for this one, but everyone did find it, no one gave up…way to persevere.  The Kingsleys also ran Orange and for once came back with dry shoes, good job guys.  That was an accomplishment considering control 47 was in a flooded swampy creek.

We welcomed some new runners, Nancy R., Eldon J., and Team Caudill.  All did very well.  Team Caudill went back out and ran the Orange course after completing White, excellent rookie performance.

Special thanks to Kathy Christy (trail name Bugs Bunny) for helping and sharing with our new runners.

As always, thanks to our volunteers who made this event possible.  Club President Howard Montgomery for community partner relations (Stark Parks), course design and setting, Sanae Rogers (trail name Acornhead) managed the registration and paperwork, Richard Davies (trail name Mad Welshman) handled instructions and starting duties, Fred Mailey was online registrar,  finisher and scorer, and Mike Avery (even as he was on vacation in Florida) got the Livelox course up and running.

A special thanks to Stark Parks for the use of Sippo Lake and our Stark Park coordinator and friend, Trevor Householder. We’re planning to see Trevor at least two more times this year, at Quail Hollow in June and Walborn Reservoir (Canoe O) in July.  Maybe we can convince him to run with us sometime or maybe by July he’ll just be tired of us.

Thanks again for coming out the Sippo Lake
