Wow! What an event, and what a turnout! With 41 timed individuals or groups out and about in the woods, it was a busy morning registering and starting runners at NEOOC’s first event of the year. Sure, we had “planned” for snow, and some colder temperatures. Ice cream sandwiches (and maybe the use of snow shoes) were promised, but neither happened! We had temps in the mid-40s instead, overcast, with wet and muddy ground conditions. In other words, a perfect day for orienteering!
Join us for a potentially snowy and cold first event of the year at Camp Manatoc. Well feature WHITE and YELLOW (beginner) courses, and GREEN and RED (advanced) courses. The beginner courses will stay near campus, whereas the advanced courses will travel up and around one of the lakes. Beautiful views are guaranteed, and you’ll be sure to stay warm from the typical terrain in Cuyahoga Valley, with lots of up and down, mixed with flatter sections to stretch the legs on.

Enjoy beautiful Camp Manatoc, and run (or walk) the WHITE, YELLOW, ORANGE, GREEN, or RED courses. Camp Manatoc, and Camp Butler, offers a challenging but fun terrain, lakes and water features, and plenty of reentrants and spurs to navigate on. Littered with trails, the location is ideal for beginner as well as seasoned orienteers wanting to improve their skill.

Come run a quick campus, with interesting features including buildings, open paved areas, roads, wooded areas, and water features. Practice those map reading skills by selecting the best route in a limited area. Multiple options for most legs on Orange and above. White and Yellow courses for beginners, with instruction available. The area is very family friendly, with plenty of amenities, restrooms, and a playground for the kids.
Recap The Foot-O was held at Camp Tuscazoar on a hot Sunday afternoon on June 26. Choose from five courses ranging from 2.1 to 3.5 km. Course Designer, Steve Hendrix, kept them on the short side so you should be able to complete your twilight adventure before dark. Do we need flashlights? Decide for yourself, but a thick leaf canopy + forecast cloudiness + low sun angle could make it hard to read your map.
