Description

  • The inaugural Kent State Black Squirrel-O will challenge participants to find up to 24 control locations using a map and compass.  Participants will have up to two hours to reach as many control locations as possible.  Controls will have different point totals, ranging from 10 to 50 points.  The more difficult the control is to reach, the more points it is worth.  Once the 2 hour cutoff is reached, there will be a 10 point penalty per minute late to finish
  • Participants will be given a map that will show the location of the 24 control flags.  A compass is helpful for navigating, and a limited number are available to borrow.  Electronic finger sticks will also be provided that will allow participants to record when they reach a control
  • There will be a few surprise check points!  The first person to reach these check points can grab a token, good for a post-race beverage or $5!
  • Post event results and pizza will be provided by NEOCC at the Downtown Kent DORA, just south of the Gazebo
  • To learn more about what to expect at the event, please visit NEOOC.com and click on LEARN
  • The Kent State orienteering map is located here.  Control points will be populated on the maps that are provided on the day of the event
