What a fantastic day for orienteering! A little cold, but not too bad, and the sun was out for part of it. In total, 43 people made it out to Camp Manatoc to enjoy courses at all levels. Our youngest competitor was 6, and our most veteran, 88. We even had a Guinness World Record holder in our midst…

With the forest wide open, many found it easy to read contour lines. With little snow, some of the trails were pretty distinct and easy to find. A beautiful half-frozen waterfall treated everyone on YELLOW or above. Many were excited to have seen it, as it’s often not on our courses for Manatoc.

A huge THANK YOU goes out to all the volunteers for making the event happen. Guy Russ ran registration expertly, and managed big crowds in the first half hour with no problem. John and Christine Nazier managed the start area – new for this event, with map handout at the start line, and not a moment sooner!

Several folks helped pickup & collect controls. Thank you to Anthony Roberts, Bob Boltz, Steve Johnson, Phil Wadsworth, the Johnson/Witalis Team, and Bob Turanchick for grabbing a few each. Two controls are still left out there (I was simply too tired to get them at 5 PM, and they’ll have to wait…) If you want to help, let me know, and I’ll send you the locations. Extra thanks to Steve and Olivia Johnson for helping clean up the cabin towards the end!

Congratulations to Shelby Jones for taking first on WHITE, Eric Curts for winning YELLOW, Amy Hensley took Orange, Mark Stypczynski conquered GREEN, Shinichi Shimizu was the lone victorious runner on RED, and Steve Johnson mastered BLUE (closely followed by Bob Turanchick at +4 seconds)!
