The Third Annual Python ROGAINE is now closed!

Thank you for attending our event.

Once again our event attracted just over 100 participants!  Not bad, since we got off to a very slow start in getting our registration window opened. In fact, this year was kinda organizational chaos behind the scenes.  But, as we tend to do, we muddled through to success without showing much of the stress that attended the birth.

But there still were some snafus. In particular, I would like to apologize to our participants who came expecting hot showers and light (men’s side). (We expected them too.) When given the keys to the shower room facilities, I should have required a walk through with camp staff to ensure that lights worked and that the hot water tanks were turned on. We’ll be adding this detail to our checklist for next year. But thank you for bearing with us and persevering with what we had. [walkway lighting to the facility would also have helped]

As for the event itself, better news…. There were no injuries for the third year. And as the event director, I was informed of no officially disputed control locations or mis-categorized teams.  Yahhhh!  We did have some mistakenly categorized teams initially (due to personnel changes after registration or lack of info), but no allegations of cheating.   Also, though the track itself was somewhat muddy from the previous night’s rain, it was not made a quagmire by the rain that we had expected might bedevil us throughout the day.   All worthy of a thumbs up!

Again this year, we did not make the course quite hard enough —Team Kiwi accomplished clearing it and garnering a perfect score of 2260 points. When asked how long it took them to complete the feat, they indicated 7hr 55 minutes. That is GREAT time management.

Our three top scores for the event were as follows:

  1. Team Kiwi Elite Men, 2260
  2. Topo the Mountain Team, Elite Mixed, 2170
  3. Indy Xpress/Clif Bar Team, Masters Mixed, 1870

A full list of scores and splits are attached for your review.
Once again, Thank You for attending our event. And see ya’ next year!

Split Times for all Competitors

Analysis of Strategies Used

Alexis Rzewski (WPOC) has spent a lot of time drawing Control Sequence Graphs for many of the 8 hour competitors.  These graphs show the route choices made by the competitors as planned and perhaps modified as the race progressed.  He used the Split Times information to create the Graphs.  Thanks for your work, Alexis!   They include Team Kiwi, Topo the Mountain, IndyXpress/Cliff Bar, and many more.

To find the Graphs, uses Alexis’s Photo link below and page and scroll to the end of his photo set.  Each image is marked with the team’s name.  Also see the NEOOC Facebook post by Alexis.

We also got a Google Earth file from Logan’s Walk. He drew his route in Google Earth (or perhaps Maps).  Here it is capture of it (click on it to get a bigger view):
