Race Result / Manatoc Short Courses + Score / 19 MAR 2016

Recap

A bit chilly, with temps in the 40s, didn’t seem to stop any of the participants on Saturday’s event at Manatoc Scout Reservation. At 11:10AM, at least 25 scouts were ready and waiting to go out seeking controls, and had to be diverted for a few minutes while we got all the paperwork in order, and finished setting up the registrar’s table and e-Punch timing system.

We offered three short courses – LIONS (1.5km), TIGERS (1.2km), and BEARS (1.9km). We also had a 90-minute score course comprised of all the controls for a total of 635 points, to help scouts with their badge requirements, although many others chose to run the score map as well.

Most runners and teams of orienteers ran more than one course, with plenty finishing all three short courses, and we saw some amazing times on the score course. A basket of Easter Eggs with goodies inside waited at the finish line. We served Gatorade and the requisite Oreos as well, although mugs of hot chocolate would have worked better… By noon, the sun had at least peaked out a few times, and there was no rain or snow.

It was great to see so many from the Kenston event come out for more. Manatoc is the perfect learning environment for new orienteers, as the terrain around the main camp is very forgiving, and it’s hard to get lost. We hope to see all return in April at Brecksville, North Chagrin, and Ledges. We have already put in for warmer temperatures…
