For all those who a) regrettably missed the Pivot-O self-serve, b) made Pivot-O and can’t wait for another chance at a Winter-time run around the woods (probably with SNOW on the ground this time!), and c) are wondering what they are going to do with no football on the first weekend in February, we bring you…

Snow-O 2022!

Yes, we will be at Allardale Park in Medina, for the 2022 rendition of long-time NEOOC favorite Snow-O.  Event Director Jay Smink and Course Designer Bob Turanchik promise fun for all with plenty of challenges to satisfy all skill levels.

Results of this event will count towards the NEOOC 2022 Season Championship.

Details

  • Place:  Allardale Park, Medina, OH
  • Dates and Times: Sunday, February 6, 2022
    • Check-in starting at 10:30am, at Allardale Lodge
    • Social distancing, with assigned starts, beginning at 11:00am and with last starts at 1:00pm
    • We apologize, but NO WALK-UPS for this event
    • All runners need to be finished by 3:00pm, as we need to be out of the Lodge by 4:00pm
    • Control pickup at 3:00pm
  • SportIdent ePunch equipment and FULL SIZE control flags will be in use
  • Livelox will be active for this event.  Sign in to the Livelox app on your smartphone to record your route directly to Livelox, or record it on your Garmin or other GPS tracker, and upload it to Livelox later.  Check out this short video for a demo of route replays in Livelox.

To participate, you are required to preregister and prepay for one of the available time slots provided.  The time slot represents the time you are allowed to approach registration area and check in.  It is NOT your exact start time.  Please do not approach the the check-in area early.  And if you are late by more than 10 minutes, your are disqualifying yourself from the opportunity to orienteer that day.  However, if the event is not full with 50 preregistered starts, you can wait until all those with assigned Time Slots have started, and go out.  Though, these can not be walk-ups.

If you arrive at the park early, please use the time to prepare yourself for your run on the course by changing into your gear and by completing your warm-up routine.  It will be ideal if you can move immediately to the start area after your check in.

A Start is an individual or group starting the same course at the same time.  The group can be up six people and is required to be part of your COVID-19 cohort or pod.  One map is provide for the Start.  Up to two additional maps can purchased at the time of preregistration.

If you have more than six in your group, you must split into two groups.  Bring your own water and snacks.  None will be provided at the Check in, Start, or Finish areas.  Also, no water stops will be available on the courses.

Courses

Five courses will be available:

  • White (9 controls, length: 2.0 km)
  • Yellow (8 controls, length: 3.1 km)
  • Orange (10 controls, length: 3.7 km)
  • Green (10 controls, length: 4.5 km)
  • Red (13 controls, length: 6.3 km)

For the Season Championship, results achieved in this event will be mapped into the Season Championship skill categories (Male and Female) as follows:

  • White and Yellow results will go to the Beginner skill categories
  • Orange results will go to the Intermediate skill categories
  • Green and Red results will go to the Advanced skill categories

Time Slots

A total of 50 Time Slots are available.  The courses are spread across the Time Slots as follows:

White (9) – 11:05am, 11:25am, 11:35am, 11:45am, 12:05pm, 12:15pm, 12:25pm, 12:30pm, 12:45pm

Yellow (7) – 11:10am, 11:15am, 11:35am, 11:55am, 12:15pm, 12:35pm, 12:55pm

Orange (9) – 11:05am, 11:25am, 11:30am, 11:45am, 11:50am, 12:05pm, 12:10pm, 12:25pm, 12:45pm

Green (8) – 11:00am, 11:20am, 11:40am, 12:00pm, 12:20pm, 12:40pm, 12:50pm, 1:00pm

Red (17) – 11:00am, 11:10am, 11:15am, 11:20am, 11:30am, 11:40am, 11:50am, 11:55am, 12:00pm, 12:10pm, 12:20pm, 12:30pm, 12:35pm, 12:40pm, 12:50pm, 12:55pm, 1:00pm

Determine the course that you want to do based on your skill level and where you want your results to reflect in the Season Championship, if that is important to you.  On the registration form, select the course in the pull down.  Only one course selection per group or individual is permitted.  This will allow the maximum amount of participation for this event.

We may need to adjust the Time Slots listed above according to the demand for a particular course, but we are sticking to the 50 Time Slot total, overall.  Preregistration will be closed after 50 Time Slots are filled or at 9:00pm on February 4, whichever comes first.

Then, based on your course selection, select your first and second preferred Time Slots.   Note that neither is guaranteed, but we will try to accommodate the requests to the best of our abilities.  We will send you your assigned Time Slot via the email address that you provide on the form.  Emails will be sent shortly after preregistration closes on Feb 4.  (Check your SPAM or JUNK folder before contacting us, if you believe we have not notified you.  Especially, @hotmail.)

Registration and Cost

  • Preregistrations, closing 9:00pm February 4, 2022
    • $10 per start* for members of NEOOC or OUSA-affiliated clubs
    • $15 per start* for non-members

* A Start is an individual or group navigating the course together.  One map is included per paid start.  Additional maps, up to two, are $3 each.

After submitting your information on the registration form, you will be directed to the PayPal website.  Use the PayPal pull down to select the number of maps.
